Foi na Finlândia que o diretor artístico da MiratecArts e fundador do Festival Cordas anunciou que a edição de 2020 vai ter um programa especial dedicado ao país,propriamente intitulado SPOTLIGHT FINLAND. 

Quando no WOMEX, o maior evento de músicas do mundo, que aconteceu na passada semana na cidade de Tampere, Terry Costa aproveitou para reunir com potenciais parceiros, incluindo entidades governamentais, associações, agentes culturais e artistas para preparar um programa digno de representação, do tradicional ao contemporâneo, em termos de música e os instrumentos de corda do país nórdico. 

Acompanhado pela artista Maija Kauhanen, Costa anunciou a ideia para ser trabalhada nos próximos meses. "Estou contente que estamos sendo abraçados pelo país, apoiando para que esta ideia aconteça e, assim, as audiências do Cordas conheçam, em primeira mão, mais cultura finlandesa incluindo história e artistas, através da arte dos cordofones, já no próximo mês de setembro, na ilha do Pico, Açores, e talvez ainda em outras localidades em Portugal."  

Maija Kauhanen é a única finlandesa que já pisou os palcos do Festival Cordas na ilha do Pico. A artista virtuosa do kantele, o instrumento mais finlandês,estava presente no WOMEX e ajudou a transmitir a mensagem do programa especial a ser apresentado. Maija pretende voltar aos Açores, mas desta vez acompanhada por uma turma de colegas do mundo da música do seu país. 

Finland featured in Azores music festival Cordas 2020

It was in Finland that MiratecArts artistic director and founder of the Cordas World Music Festival announced that the 2020 edition will have a special program dedicated to the country, entitled SPOTLIGHT FINLAND.

When at WOMEX, the biggest music expo event in the world, held last week in Tampere, Terry Costa took the opportunity to meet with potential partners, including government entities, associations, cultural agents and artists, to prepare a decent program that includes tradition and contemporary, in terms of music and string instruments of the Nordic country.

Accompanied by artist Maija Kauhanen, Costa announced the idea to be worked on in the coming months. "I am pleased that we are being embraced by the country, supporting this idea to happen, and thus Cordas Festival audiences will know first hand more about Finnish culture including history and artists through the art of cordophones next September, on the island of Pico, Azores, and perhaps in other places of Portugal."

Maija Kauhanen is the only Finn who has ever stepped on the Cordas Festival stage on Pico Island. Kantele’s virtuous artist, the most Finnish instrument, was present at WOMEX and helped convey the message of the special program to be presented next year in Portugal. Maija plans to return to the Azores, but this time accompanied by a group of colleagues from the music world of Finland. www.festivalcordas.com
